Work Day Chronicle
8/20/2009

Clearing weeds in the front landscaping
Clearing weeds in the front landscaping
I attended the Acacia house work day. I didn't get there until 9:30 because:
a) I'm retired & do not start my days early, or
b) I was hoping the heavy work was done by then, or
c) I am "work brittle."

You should have seen the energy. I mean both Sr. Men & MOA's were working up a storm. I trailed Fralick & Hapgood for a while. You should see them in action with power tools. They knocked down a partition in the kitchen to make room for more storage. I learned one thing. One of them broke one of the new style light bulbs, & we didn't die. They were awesome with tools.

You should have seen the MOA's who were working. Some of them had tool belts & tool boxes that would make most of you green with envy. I guess that comes naturally since we have several MOA's majoring in Construction Science. None of them let grass grow under their feet.

Speaking of grass, Lucas, "Brick," Geist and others were cleaning up the area around the basketball court. They trimmed the tree close to the new rec room (old sleeping dorms to the old guys) so there shouldn't be any limbs rubbing the house. The tree even looks better. The front lawn is looking good also.

You should see how clean the area is between the parking lot & Lee School. The bushes are trimmed so neatly. You should also see the shed. One of the MOA's has that shed organized, & I mean ORGANIZED.

To top it all off, Cecil Pearce drove in from Sharon Springs. He brought his wife & two fine sons to work on the front entryway bushes. I'm not sure how Cecil persuaded his wife to do hard labor like that. He had to promise to take her out dining & dancing to some place like the Broadmoor or a grand shopping tour to Denver or K.C. with no grumbling about what she would buy. How he persuaded his two sons to ride from Sharon Springs to do yard work, on Saturday no less, I'll never know.

A couple of the MOA's were setting up bunk beds in the old housemother's space, as well as other work to create space for men.

You just should have seen the MOA's work. Talk about a work ethic! We saw it last Sat.

The upshot of my message is that there was some SERIOUS work done on the house with an abundance of fraternal spirit. You would have been proud. Don't blame my report if you feel guilty not being there.

Just kidding. I just thought the work day was symbolic of the new enthusiastic fraternal spirit that seems to exist.

Check your calendars for future Acacia events. Remember the old advertising slogan, "Catch the Spirit."

Just know that something good was going on.
