Acacia Teams Up with Chi Omega Sorority for Philanthropic Service

MANHATTAN, KS – The Kansas State Chapter of Acacia Fraternity partnered with Chi Omega Sorority on September 30, 2009 to raise funds for Operation Military Kids in a brand new philanthropy event, Operation Snow Cone. By selling some sporty t-shirts and snow cones to relieve thirst on a mild day, K-State Acacia and Chi Omega raised $500 in funds to benefit Operation Military Kids.

"The Operation Military Kids organization is so thankful for the efforts of both Chi Omega and Acacia," said Housemother Ann Domsch, the Program Assistant for the North East Extension Office and Operation Military Kids Coordinator. "The funds will be used for the production of 'hero backpacks' to provide school supplies and goodies for military schoolchildren."

One of the major goals of the Men of Acacia when returning for the 2009-2010 academic year was to create a new philanthropic event and co-sponsor it with a sorority chapter. That goal became reality on September 30 when Acacia and Chi Omega sold snow cones at the K-State Student Union and off campus at the Chi Omega Chapter house.

Launched in April 2005, Operation Military Kids is a program that has benefited over 88,000 military youth across the country. Through a network of community partners, the organization provides youth program opportunities for school age, middle school, and teenaged children and connects them to support resources where they live. For more information on the program, visit www.operationmilitarykids.org.

The philanthropy fundraiser was actually the culmination of a series of events with Chi Omega. K-State Acacia hosted a Bar-B-Que at the Chapter house on Monday, September 28th in which over fifty Chi Omegas took part. After a meet-and-greet time and dinner, the Men of Acacia and Women of Chi Omega gathered in the dining hall to watch "I Love You Man."
