Mom Ann Presented Prestigious “Order of Pythagoras” Award
6/23/2010

April 24, 2010

MANHATTAN, KS – In a historic move to award honor where honor is due, the Kansas State Acacia Alumni Association and its Board of Directors felt it was time to recognize Housemother Ann Domsch.

As the first female and non-Acacian to receive the Order, Domsch’s dedication for the past nine years has been unmatched.

The International Council of Acacia presents the Order of Pythoragas award for “service beyond the call of duty. Recipients must have made a significant contribution to the betterment or success of the fraternity…..and be of such nature as to serve as a model and inspiration to others.”

The board recommended and the International Council of Acacia approved awarding the Order of Pythagoras to our Housemother Ann Domsch.

“Mom Ann lives the Acacia life goals as a respected, wise professional in youth development contributing back in real, meaningful ways through her role as our housemother and with mentoring relationships,” said Br. Lucas Shivers ’01.

She has what it takes to raise young men committed to excellence. Her dedication to Acacia is unmatched with her lasting voice of prudence and etiquette.

“She has covered countless topics of leadership in CORE lessons,” Shivers said. “Her interactive style is a favorite among the Men of Acacia, and she has truly served Acacia well as housemother since 2001.”

To express our thanks, Men and Senior Men contributed memories and thank yous to a scrapbook pulled together by Ryan Philbrick ’02.

“Mom Ann deserve a great thank you for all of the work she has done for our house,” David Becker ’07. “She has been here beside the house and its members through both fun and tough times. I hope that she will be around for many years to come to help develop the men who are living in the Acacia house.”

The moments Men remember with Mom Ann are probably all of the talks we had as we sat around drinking our coffee, covering a wide range of topics but most of the time talking about sports, Kansas State University sports.

“Mom, you have always been there for each of us to help us grow,” Becker said. “She has given each of us tips on how to mature and improve ourselves as men, sometimes without us even realizing it. She has become a mom and a friend to us all.”

All of the Acacia family is enormously proud of her and of the great honor she has brought to the entire Acacia organization at K-State. Her name will be added to the permanent house plaque recognizing the past K-State recipients of the Order of Pythagoras.

The Order of Pythagoras, Acacia’s second highest distinction, is given to friends, alumni and active members who have contributed to the fraternity beyond the call of duty. 1962, there have been 32 Brothers and now our first Acacia friend inducted into the Order.
